Following a collab with New Balance Shoes Women last year, nonnative and New Balance are teaming up once again to give the CM996 model a vintage makeover. Part of the Japan-only “996 Collaboration Project,” nonnative designer Takayuki Fujii describes the collab as a “brand new 996,” aiming to give the model a complete overhaul.

For starters, the New Balance Shoes Black signature “N” logo has been replaced with a smaller “NB” symbol. To give the shoe an 80’s nostalgic feel, a long grain suede has been added to the upper alongside an eye-catching faux yellowish-stained midsole for vintage appeal. Under the theme, “Street = Concrete”, the color palette consists of a grey base, with white and black elements throughout. Additionally, the insole features an original concrete print. Elastic straps have also been added to the tongue, allowing for the foot to be secured even without shoe laces.

The classic New Balance Shoes On Sale feature that premium suede and mesh construction we’ve grown to love and expect from New Balance, in addition to silver 3M on the “N” logo and heel. Both shoes are “balanced” out with an off-white midsole that pairs really well with the simple design going on with the upper. For a shoe that we all now will never go out of style, it definitely might be time to re-up on a pair.

Featuring a premium beige leather upper, the new New Balance 996 Grey Mushroom silhouette combines an overlaid leather New Balance logo alongside an off-white rubber outside for timeless style mixed in with exceptional cushioning. Completing the delivery is a pair of nude-colored laces to complement the look of the luxe leather upper.
